Admission FAQ

This FAQ page has been created in response to the questions that we have received in past years about the admissions process.

What are the prerequisites for applying to the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy (DPEA)?  How can I prepare?

Students must be enrolled in Common Core Math 8 during their eighth-grade year to be qualified to apply to the DPEA. That is the only requirement; no extracurricular courses or activities are necessary.

What is the application process?

The application instructions can be found here. The basic process is to complete and submit an application. After applications have been received and reviewed, highly qualified students will be contacted to schedule an interview.

What if I missed the DPEA presentation at my school?

The DPEA presentation is for informational purposes only and attendance is not required in order to apply.

The DPEA did not visit my school to give a presentation; can I still apply?

All students in the Santa Barbara area are invited to apply to the DPEA; however, if you live outside of the Dos Pueblos High School attendance area, please make sure that you submit intradistrict transfer paperwork to the SBUSD office by the deadline of January 31, 2017. For more information about the intradistrict transfer process please click here.

What is the required GPA to apply to the DPEA?

GPA is a factor considered in admission to the DPEA; however, there is no minimum required GPA to apply to the DPEA. All DPEA students are expected to exhibit a high level of academic commitment and achievement.

Will I get an interview? When will I know?

Soon after applications have been received and reviewed, qualified applicants will be contacted in order to schedule an interview.

When will I know if I have been accepted to the DPEA?

Students will receive a letter notifying them of their admission status by February 28, 2017.
