DPEA Machine Shop Teacher
Learn more about Steffen Hausler
Steffen Hausler is currently the Shop Manager at The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy. He graduated from Cal Poly in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in 3D art and design and has worked at LCOGT (Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope) as a Mechanical Engineer/ CNC machinist. From a young age Mr. Hausler had a passion for tinkering and building. “I have always been building things and working with my hands. It was a natural progression to pick up mechanical engineering. I started machining the first summer from school. Not only to obtain my California residency but also to give me the skills needed for the clubs I was interested in during college.”
Mr. Hausler first learned about the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy from “a former colleague who said I would be a good fit for the program and I also knew a few alumni from work.” Mr Hausler is an accomplished machinist with a great deal of experience in working in industry. Some of his most complicated projects range from “an instrument focal mechanism housing that required over a week’s worth of machining the part on two separate machines and multiple fixtures to hold the part, a cast truss node that needed 5th axis machining to allow proper alignment of the assembly, to a 4ft x 8ft mold for a composite human powered vehicle fairing that took a week to cut per side.” As a student I can tell you that working in the machine shop can seem like a daunting task at first, however Mr. Hausler is a patient teacher who with all of his experience makes a great addition to the DPEA family.
