DPEA New Computer Science Teacher
DPEA Welcomes New Computer Science Teacher!
My name is Lyle Harlow. I am very excited to be the new CAD (Computer Aided Design) and Computer Technology teacher at the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy. I am honored to be part of such an excellent program and to work alongside the dedicated teachers, mentors, and talented students.
I grew up in the rural ranch land of southeastern Oregon and northeastern California. I earned my B.S. in engineering physics from the University of Arizona in 1994. After graduating, I worked for five years as an electrical engineer designing and building custom single board computers. My wife and I then joined the Peace Corps where we served as volunteer teachers for two years in Tanzania, East Africa. Upon returning to the United States, I moved to Boulder, Colorado where I taught technology education classes, coached robotics, and enjoyed mountain biking as well as backcountry skiing for five years. I moved to Santa Barbara in 2007 because my wife accepted a faculty position at UCSB. Since my arrival in Santa Barbara, I have been working as a contract engineer in the construction industry. In addition to contract engineering work, I have also used my design and fabrication skills to create handmade bicycles for clients all over the world. In my spare time, I enjoy cycling, sailing, camping, going to the beach, and playing at playgrounds with my wife, Danielle, and 18 month old daughter, Vivi.
It is with great excitement that I join the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy and begin my 8th year in the classroom.
