DPEA Program Dubbed a ‘School of the Future’

A NOVA episode on PBS, School of the Future, took an in-depth look at changing educational landscapes across the country, including those inside the DPEA.

In conjunction with the NOVA documentary, DPEA Founder and Director Amir Abo-Shaeer and former DPEA student Madison Pickett were invited to the 2nd Annual White House Next Generation High School Summit, held on September 12 in Washington, D.C.

Abo-Shaeer joined NOVA producers on a panel about classroom innovations. He also spoke in sessions about project- and design-based education in the United States. The all-day event highlighted students, educators, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs who are reinventing the high school experience to better empower students to seize opportunities in today's economy and to prepare students for success in college and career. The US Department of Education and White House staff were among the participants.

DPEA parents, friends, and community members were invited to a live screening of the 2-hour NOVA documentary at the Elings Performing Arts Center (EPAC) at DPHS on Wednesday, September 14. The show ran from 9-11 pm, and Abo-Shaeer spoke at 8:45 pm about his trip to Washington DC.
