Here's some more information about our faculty:
|Amir Abo-Shaeer, Teacher, DPEA Director|
Amir graduated from UCSB with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Education. Before becoming a teacher, Amir was a mechanical engineer working on research and development in academia, the aerospace industry, and the telecommunications industry. He began teaching science and engineering at Dos Pueblos High School in 2001. In 2002 he founded the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy and continues to lead the DPEA as its Director. In 2010, Amir was named a MacArthur Fellow. He is also the winner of numerous education awards.
|Emily Shaeer, DPEA Admissions, Outreach, and Communications Coordinator|
Emily graduated from UCSB with a Bachelor’s degree in Literature and a Master’s degree in Education. She also graduated from UC Irvine with a Master’s degree in English. Emily has been teaching in the Santa Barbara School District since 2001 and is currently working for the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy as Admissions, Outreach, and Curriculum Development Coordinator.
|Diana Hemsley, DPEA Art Teacher, Assistant Director|
Diana graduated from UCSB with a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Education. Diana has been teaching Art at Dos Pueblos High School since 1993. During that time she has taught Color, Design, Sculpture, AP Studio Art, and Leadership. Diana has also been involved at DPHS as advisor for the Art Club, Fishing Club, Local Color Magazine, and Moto X Club. In 2011, Diana joined the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy as Art Teacher and Assistant Director.

|Lyle Harlow, DPEA Mechatronics Teacher & IT Director|
Lyle graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics. After graduation, Lyle worked for five years as an electrical engineer designing and building single board computers. Lyle and his wife then joined the Peace Corps where he served as a volunteer teacher for two years in Tanzania, East Africa. Upon returning to the United States, Lyle taught technology education classes and coached robotics in Boulder, Colorado. He then worked as a contract engineer in the construction industry in Santa Barbara, California. In 2012, Lyle joined the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy as Computer Science and Mechatronics teacher and IT manager.
|Kyle Stewart, DPEA CAD/Computer Programming Teacher|
Kyle graduated from UCSB with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Education. Before becoming a teacher, Kyle was an electrical engineer working on research and development in video processing and remote measurement. Kyle joined the DPEA in 2013 as a Programming Mentor. He is now the CAD and Programming teacher and the team lead for the 9th-11th grade curriculum. He also teaches hardware and software for the Mechatronics class.

John is the Machine Shop Manager. His day-to-day duties include teaching the senior level manufacturing rotation and building parts for the DPEA.
