Thursday Morning Live
We might not have Tina Fey, Seth Meyers’ Weekend Update, or guest appearances from Justin Bieber, but the DP Engineering Academy now has something even better.
Thursday Morning Live (TML) offers a variety of enriching opportunities, ranging from lectures and workshops by accomplished individuals, to the opportunity to interact with DPEA peers. Many of these seminars also include a breakfast students cannot miss—waffles, donuts, and sometimes a chocolate fountain.
TML (Thursdays 8-9 am) is put on by the DPEA Leadership Class and is entirely student run. The seminars take place in the free hour after zero period and before first period on late-start Thursdays. They are usually hosted in the DPEA’s Art room. Each week introduces a new and unique topic, so every DPEA student can find a seminar that appeals to them. A signup sheet is in Mr. Harlow’s room, the computer lab of the DPEA. Academy students of all grade levels are invited to join, but should make sure to sign up fast because space is limited. This is an opportunity engineering students definitely do not want to miss.
Sophomore Ethan Edney, who attended a seminar about communication in the DPEA, said, “It was super cool to hear about the background of the DPEA Foundation, how it came together and plans for the future. I would definitely recommend going.” He added, “I mean, free food! I will definitely go again.”
Sara Khan said the seminar she attended was “very informative and engaging. I got to hang out with my friends and had a really good time. It was awesome.”
Rather than hitting your snooze button an extra 20 times, come join your peers for an hour of learning and fun. If you are interested in presenting at a seminar, or know someone who you think has something worthwhile to share, contact K.C. Egger at firstname.lastname@example.org or Amanda Kennedy at email@example.com. A group of students in charge of a seminar can then contact you to discuss a presentation date and possible topics.
